Sorry to be an Attackpoint lurker on your log! Just wondered if you are in a union at work? I'm a UCU rep at U of Sheffield, and they cover FE colleges too. Could be worth looking into as it sounds as though it is more stressful than it really should be and might be worth challenging if so?

Hey not at all, definitely something to look into. It’s primarily a staffing thing we should have a couple more people in the team to help cover the massive catchment area and process applications and do social content and stay late for events but it’s just the way things have fallen with individual circumstances but the team is starting to grow again now so we can start to spread the workload out a bit more now!

Hopefully that will sort it out before too long. Always good to keep in mind that they need you more than you need them. Could be worth a conversation with your line manager to let them know how stressful it has been. And do they know how serious a runner you are? You never know, you might be able to negotiate a longer lunch break or earlier finish here and there if so?

Much like training, short periods of work elevated stress are good for learning and development, but keeping them within acceptable levels and allowing room for recovery/growth afterwards is required to really benefit.

I think everyone has been feeling the squeeze a little bit which consequently leads to more people having to take time off. Yes time to process things helps massively and just having something outside of work to focus on has been absolutely essential for me!
Nature of the job means you have to be extremely flexible but I’ve been able to do more training than I thought. First few weeks I thought my running career was over and I was going to be a normal person from now on hahaha
