He can't diagnose anything until he knows what's going on. Apparently one of the latest Apple smart watches can take very accurate EKGs and there's also a good phone app, but you have to do it as soon as you feel you're arrhythmic. And if that happens when you're out on an o-course you're out of luck unless you want to stop and take the EKG on the spot, and assuming you have your phone/watch with you. So this implantable thing is one of the most convenient ways to detect an irregularity and even if they don't occur often (with me) i should experience at least one in the next 3 years which is the life of the device!
