I haven't followed much this year (other than watching almost every Kansas game).

Of the teams I've seen, Iowa State and Houston looked quite good. Baylor, too.

Kansas is a strange team. They've looked fantastic a few times. But not many. And two top players have had injury problems. Johnny Furphy starts as a freshmen and seems likely to get drafted by the NBA in 2024.

I'm guessing Kansas will be a popular pick for an upset in the first round.

If both KU and Gonzaga win their opening round games (not gimmes for either), then we'll have to (finally) institute the rule that Gina and made way back in 2009: I get to watch at home. She gets to watch at her parents' house. (We had no idea that those two locations would now be across the street from each other.)

So one of the injured starters - McCullar - is out for the rest of the tournament.

He got injured back in late January. They reported it as a "bone bruise" and he could be back in a week or two. That makes no sense. My first thought was they didn't really mean "bone bruise" (since that takes more like 6-8 weeks). He missed one game and then came back and played the next two games. But since the injury he has missed a bunch of games and not been very good (at least offensively).

It all makes sense if he (a) had a true bone bruise and (b) played on it and made it worse. People do that all the time - try to play through an injury when they really shouldn't.

Actually, we can't follow through with our rule after all. If KU and Gonzaga play, we'll be at the Junior Nationals banquet, lol.

I think I picked both KU and Zaga to lose in the first round, winning lots of friends I'm sure.

Those are both legit picks. I have Gonzaga losing in the first round as well, but I just couldn't pick KU to lose ... so I have them getting to the 16. Probably not gonna happen without McCullar but if they all step up, it certainly could.
