Wow! what an amazing whirlwind of a conclusion to an epic series, these GrizO-hosted four days were! Flawless NREs with much course-planning thought-depth. It was great getting to know you hardworking Grizzly-folk, thanks for the Saturday presentation!

Yes, a really great set of events on varied and challenging terrain! The Grizzly team is gaining a lot of good experience very quickly.

Brilliant. The 9 day PNWOF '24 Event was top notch with an outstanding diversity of terrain/maps, a demanding but attainable schedule of well planned courses including an impressive number of NREs with a travel day in the middle and an extraordinaire team of COC, EWOC and GrizO volunteers!

I also really like the Orienteering USA website Recap pageā€”such a good idea to capture all that information in one place.

I know there is an incredible amount of work behind the scenes to make PNWOF successful. Thank you very much. Your experience and enthusiasm was evident.

Thanks also to all the participants and spectators who greatly added value to the PNWOF experience.

I posted photos from our trip in a public album on Smugmug. They're in reverse chronological order and include some orienteer photos.

If you're into homemade ice cream and are passing through Couer d'Alene I highly recommend Panhandle Cones and Coffee on N 4th. Their flavors just taste richer than at some other places. :-)

Sad to have missed all of this.

Wow, Fisk State Park.

The terrain it most reminds me of, looking at the map, is Vasquez Rocks actually.

Practically, how does it compare?

What a wonderful week! The orienteering was challenging, the socializing was phenomenal, and the Missoula days were beyond compare. I especially loved the arenas for each event and the announcing! All so great.

Headcam video from the Green course at Soft Roc. If you watch, I'd recommend setting the playback speed to 1.5x (or more) to make up for the slow pace I was moving.

Soft Rock is more Vasquezy than Fisk. Fisk is arguably more of a Sprint terrain in that a safe and executable course for all but the most agile runners would not go "upstairs" atop the plateaus, so you treat the rock-blocks as obstacles or buildings. Earth/ground cover is gentler at both Fisk and Soft Rock than at Vasquez and than at similar-looking Iberian terrains.

Yes, thank you to Cascade OC, Eastern Washington OC, and Grizzly OC for a great event. Would love to see PNWOF every second or third summer as a viable alternative to going to Europe for an orienteering "fix." Maybe alternating summers with larger Laramie Daze? Any other US / Canadian summer orienteering venues worthy of an every few years multi-day festival?

And, all the more amazing to remember that COC hosted an amazing Junior Nationals in March on only a few months notice. All the organizers deserve a hearty thank you and a chance to put their feet up!
