| eileen: | nice rant there eric.
but does sound unfortunate that a park is spending 12 million only to change natural areas into sports fields and aesthetics. but of course still keeping the appearance of protected natural ecosystems (with fences surrounding amoeba shaped ponds) should do the trick as well as you expect it to! at uvm, there is a crude orienteering map of a university owned forest, but administration wont allow a local meet for fear that orienteers wandering off the paths would destroy its fragile ecosystem. on another note, im hoping to major in political ecology! |

| ebone: | Well, to play devil's advocate to my own rant, the whole park area is a former naval air station, which was mostly built on fill, so depending on how far back in time one goes, the default ecosystem is either paved runway or lake. And there is a sports field shortage problem, and I'm not sure that the park isn't a fine place to put more sports fields, in comparison to the other options (which I'm sure are few, from the standpoints of budget, geography and politics). |

| ebone: | Yes, I can certainly understand the points of view of all the interested parties and why the outcome is what it is. |
