MrPither: I think the best training I ever did was with pi shadowing me and making me talk the whole way - describing everything like attackpoints, folding the map, etc. I'd forgotten about that. Good to do more often. and you don't even need pi there....but you feel a little silly talking to yourself in the woods...

Bash: OK, I'll admit it. I have been known to talk to myself when I'm orienteering - although the discussion never reaches any great level of detail!

You are right though. It's a useful exercise to explain everything you're doing to someone else - either someone more experienced who can ask tough questions, or else someone less experienced who forces you to think like a coach.

Bender: I've been told that when I'm in the woods everyone can tell when I'm messing up... I've gotta keep my explatifs and my conversations more to myself.

Gotta admit that Pi also got me doing this over a year ago and it is super key to keep up. Also prevents you from convincing yourself of features that aren't actually there and thus question the validity in the location you believe yourself to be on the map.
