| TriARgirl: | I think you did a great job. This is your first triathlon, and you weren't training for a sprint.
I think sprint triathlon is a ridiculous distance anyways - but it's good intruction to triathlon layout. It's ALL AT or above. Yuck. Who wants that much lactic acid? Be careful about getting too much intensity going forward. You DON'T want to be feeling that much lactic acid in a half ironman or you will fry yourself. The way you felt during your half marathon is a better gauge of effort. Don't get hung up on body composition. You carry a lot of lean tissue. A lot of the sprint guys are super skinny - but that doesn't guarantee anything. 212 lbs is not a lot for a guy your height. As the distance increases, the more it depends on training, pacing, nutrition. There is really quite a range of body types. I know some super fast clydesdales who are shorter than you. You're already making gradual changes, anyways. If you do anything drastic along these lines, your health and training will suffer. I recommend the book "Going Long" by Gordo Byrne and Joe Friel. That will give you some good guidelines, in advance of getting a coach. |
