| eddie: | I've been rebuilding my old steel torpedo over the past few weeks. Its now in parts on my kitchen floor awaiting some dremmel work to remove rust from the frame. Its in suprisingly good shape after 18 years of use and abuse. I go through cabes fast though. Both of the shifter cables were badly rusted (one broke over the winter on the trainer and I just tied it in a knot to hold it to the lever). Seems like I break one cable a year on one of the two bikes. The cable sheaths on the old bike are rusted into the braze-on eyes - I can't slide them out! I'm slowly refitting everything with teflon cables now as things break, so will see if that helps to resist my toxic sweat. Broke a shifter cable on the new bike in season two, so maybe I'm just too strong for steel cables. Perhaps fly-by-wire is the answer. |
