| Quirkey: | Since you've got a monitor Colin. I'd suggest sticking a Threshold Run in once a week for a while.
Yes its an unfortable run, but well worth it for the result you're looking for. |

| cledlie: | Thanks. I've tried that this evening - have a look at my Monday night run. How long should I be going and what HR - was this about right - should I be aiming for longer? |

| Quirkey: | These sessions are ideally of 20min duration for the core run (i.e. not including warm-up/down etc) . Some folk call them 'Tempo' runs.
The pace you need to be running for these should roughly as fast as you'd be able to maintain 50-60 mins. Ideally you would be running in a place where you can keep your pace constant (minimal hills / traffic lights etc) The range of HR 80-90% will work, but there are a few different tests you can do if you want to get a more accurate HR to aim for. The closer you run to your actual Anaerobic Threshold the more effective this training will be..... http://www.brianmac.co.uk/hrm3.htm I would say though, keep it to once a week or alternatively max 10% of mileage if you can. Sorry, that went on a bit. Hope it makes sense. |
