| Ruhis: | For me everything longer than 90 minutes is long. But I'm a girl... :p
Anyway, if I remember right, your body starts to use more fat than carbs as fuel after 60 minutes or so. But I guess that applies for "normal people". But I think after 90 minutes it must be mostly fatburning for athletes as well. |

| naomi: | i would say long starts with 100 ... 10 extra minutes for boys :P
but ... hmmm ... 100 ... still not really long ...lets say it starts with 120. thats long! |

| Coach.dion: | Boys, Boys, Boys hasn't long got to do with distance? So if you ran fast you could call 80 min long if you ran 22km...
Then again what would you call a 65min run? longish... |

| Ruhis: | As a future (exercise) physiologist I always think about what kind of a physiological effect you want to get from the training. If you do a long fast run, the effects are totally different from a long slow run. And usually for orienteers long means a slow long training. |

| naomi: | ya, there are these two types. one taking time in account and the other one the distace. i count time! :D
BUT i changed my mind ... for me long starts at about 1:48, 1:49. some 90 minutes or stuff like that is longish! :) @dion: what if you run in terrain and a lot of uphill and stuff. you wont get that much ks ... but you will be out for quite a long time! |

| Old_Fox: | true true, there is such a difference as to how we define long and it certainly depends on how you look at it.
First, do you mean long run (long jog) or a long run (time / distance) Long run (long jog) - over 100 min is long when you are running in LJ tempo, about 20 k's plus. The fitter you are, the longer it gets, the longer you want to race, the longer it gets. ** For Wolfi I would say that is LJ tempo is about 4:45 min to 5:15 min per km and that long starts for him at around 105 mins. Long run starts at about 80 minutes and depends entirely on the speed. I have run 23 km in 80 mins once with Felix, it was a long run, but certainly NOT a long jog! And I'm sure I've had the experience with Dion a few times as well. ** I'm still waiting for Wolfi to run a half to know where he stands on this *grin* (any time now.....) |
