urthbuoy: I'm sure your reasons for placement are good examples.

Bash: And they are all copyrighted by Hambashbuoytoy Productions.

Bash: But seriously folks... here are some of the reasons that I moved controls today:
- Safety, e.g. a long, single strand of rusty barbed wire hanging at crotch-height, blocking the obvious route to the top of my chosen re-entrant
- Property damage avoidance - steering people toward trails to avoid the urge to climb over a nice-looking fence
- Feature was less clear in the terrain than it appeared on the map, or the nearby features (e.g. trails) that people would likely use to navigate are not clearly visible, e.g. due to logging. (This race will attract some relatively new navigators, and I don't want to lose them.)
- Control close to the edge of the map, and there was a big trail that might entice racers off the map.
- Too close to a heavily-used trail. Risk of the control being stolen.
- Some controls were moved simply to stay in synch with other controls that had moved, e.g. I didn't want them too close together or at the same elevation.
- And in one case, I simply didn't find the darned thing. It was a hunting tower, and I wonder if it got taken down over the last couple of years since the map was made. Probably shouldn't have been built in the county forest anyway. I noticed that the corner store was advertising fresh wild turkey, so *somebody* was out hunting.
