| Bernard: | Can anyone kindly direct me to a site where I can view topo maps of the US? Specifically NY state. Topozone.com has been eaten by trails.com. They want you to become a member for a free trial but the registration page does not seem to be working. |

| cmorse: | http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ - uses Terraserver topo data in addition to satelite photos.
Or download full 1:24,000 topos from NY State's GIS clearinghouse http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/gisdata/quads/drg24/... |

| Bernard: | Thanks to both responses. Terraserver is useful - easy to navigate.
The NYS site has better resolution. can't seem to access www.mapper.acme.com however.. |

| CactusMagnet: | You can also get the new GeoPDF format files downloaded for free from http://store.usgs.gov/ for anywhere in the US. They have a pretty good graphical browser for being able to select the area of interest.
You need to add a free plug-in to Adobe Reader to use it (http://www.terragotech.com/solutions/map2pdf-reade... but then it has the added feature of being able to display Lat/Long coordinates for any point on the map from within Adobe Reader. I think that they want you to buy an upgrade to be able to easily create waypoints or routes from the map, but I found a freeware workaround that at least lets you copy waypoints into a GPS format |
