O Steve!: ...its a great trail, Jerritt...I assume the Fall races are similar to the Spring ones....TOTALLY low key...no one really seems to care much about times...they give out top 5 awards only (no Age Groups...kinda refreshing) and if you are ok with a result that you know is not your best due to limited training, I say "go for it"...

This past weekend Kari and I did not run farther than 11/12 road miles or 9 or 10 single track miles to prepare for the 15.5 mile (25K) race...this race requires you to hike some uphills up the mountains and is easier on your legs than a road marathon (despite the sporadic rock/root hopping)...We were both very happy with our results because we did not go in with huge goals..just go faster than last year when we just wanted to enjoy the unique race experience....and she kicked my butt good on the back half when my 50 year old legs had to yield due to the increasing lactic acid...and good for her...but I had a smile at the finish line after being able to hold on and do the best with what I got.....

You have a pretty good motor...and yes, perhaps you will be a bit undertrained...but why let that hold you back from a great event experience....

seriously....I could see you keeping your current training schedule...(nothing extra as far as time) getting in 3 long trail runs of 2 hours, 2.5 hours, and 3/3.5 hours as prep...and just doing it.....realistically you could do 3 extra workouts on top of what you are doing and be ready.....

I know your family time is important and good for you...I bet Molly would support you in getting in these long runs...run one in the gorge, run the 2nd one in Wirth and perhaps the longest one at Murphy Hanrahan...2 loops of the 10 mile mt bike trail there and you are GOLDEN!....I think the single track is the best prep....

...make a time goal just for you based on your Murphy run and limited training and go have fun...

..that would give you a good idea if you would enjoy the challenge a 50 miler would offer...

excuse the armchair philosophy...but sometimes I have found myself waiting to do things I want to do....I worked with a guy I respected who is 13 years older than me...he always told me..."dont wait"....you just never know....I think its solid advice on things like this....

Jerritt: Thanks for the input. I think you describe exactly what I was kind of thinking. The nudge is MUCH appreciated.
