| Jerritt: | Am I correct that the OCAD course distance (for sprint) will be off initially on the Tamarack map because of scale? The map is 1:7500, but OCAD scale is 1:10,000. Does thsi equal a 25% difference in computed distance to actual distance? |

| Jerritt: | BTW, Ian you are probably off the hook for hanging controls next weekend. My trip to Georgia got cancelled so I should be able to do it. I'll let you know when I confirm the babysitter. |

| iriharding: | I took a look at the Tamarack file .
1) If you go to options, scales, you will find the map is 1:10,000 in the digital model in the computer. Your course file should also be set to 1;10,000 in the digital model in the computer. 2) You can easily check that the course file and the map file are in sync by drawing a marked route 250m long right on top of the scale ruler (from 0 to 250m) at the top of the map and using the measure tool (the little ruler in the tool bar) . This should be 250m long (if not then you need to adjust the digital model scale of the course file. 3) You should now have digital model scales synced correctly . All your course lengths are now set . You might check an easy one with a piece of paper and the actual scale on the printed map . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How you choose to print this model out on a piece of paper (small piece or large piece) is now a question of printing scale. This is adjusted in the print command. To clarify the printed map on 8.5 x 11 is a 1;7500 representation of the digital model. You might choose to have a 1:2000 representation of the same digital model on a very large piece of paper ; for this I will need to change the wording ("scale 1:7500" to "scale 1:2000" at the top of the printed page but the little ruler will be just fine . (in fact I might do a 1:2000 version for the course review at the Tamarack meet) Hope this explains it ... if not send me the file and I will check it. Glad you are in town..... I am looking for good candidates for the MNOC biggest boom of the year award to present at Tamarack ... do you have any to report (self confession or reporting on others plights ?) |
