vmeyer: And, while you are documenting the injuries, what about the bloody mess from the thorn? :)

#  Posted 2008-05-27 09:10:12
PG: A certain amount of blood loss seems quite normal these days. I'm always running into something.

Plus, your TLC at the finish line was so excellent I hardly noticed it. It helped that there were no mirrors around.

vmeyer: A picture would be a super addition to the PG Wall of Gruesomeness.

I AM disappointed that I didn't have a cartoon character band-aid on hand to slap on your forehead. I am quite fond of my band-aids. Roger will confirm that the only thing (besides a gold necklace) that I wanted as a memento of my (our) trip to Italy was a box of Italian band-aids with cartoon characters - we bought a box that says "Cerotti per Bambini" - looks like Pinocchio to me...but, alas, no gold met my requirements. He got off cheap!

Hmm, maybe I can break out my Duct tape band-aids at the next meet. :)

BorisGr: That's a pretty good course, but what's up with #1?? A White course control on the Team Trials course!

#  Posted 2008-05-27 17:39:30
bubo: The course looks interesting and from what I have picked up a bit like what could be offered at the WOC Long Distance (?). Lots of route choice anyways and not always very obvious 'best routes'...
Results have been 'interesting' too - to say the least. Quite a few of the expected team members have had their share of bad runs - giving the selection committee a bit of hard work.

#  Posted 2008-05-27 18:04:45
BorisGr: Well, the "selection committee" is mostly a computer program, so it couldn't have been much hard work unless there were petitions involved.

#  Posted 2008-05-27 20:37:35
bubo: OK - I know about the 'computer committee' - but I donīt know to what extent that actually does the whole work.
There may still be other factors that could be taken into consideration as well that wonīt be possible to let a computer decide ('says the person who works with and teaches about computers all week').

To revise my statement: maybe it wouldīve been better to substitute 'hard work' with 'gray hair' - but on the other hand at least one of the persons involved already have gray hair ;)

szurcher: The terrain looks cool! I think I would have enough the race.

jjcote: For the US selection process, the "selection committee" (actually called the "review panel"), essentially doesn't have to think about the performances at the Team Trials at all, they only have to review petitions from people who were not able to be at the Team Trials. They would have work to do if there were a problem such as a top competitor being given a defective map, but "interesting results" don't come under their scrutiny.

jjcote: it seems I have a head start in this world on the next oldest by 17 years

15 years. You forgot about Jeff Schapiro. But 17 years over anybody who beat you.

j-man: #1 was actually not that easy. Sure, you can get most of the way there easily, although there is nominal route choice... It was the final attack which was hard. I know a couple people missed this one--the indistinct trail was really hard to find and the boulder among rocks also hard to find. Moreover, an easy leg #1 set up a great #2.
