Quirkey: I'd suggest still doing something if you're able
Even 30 mins of 'easy' non-impact stuff every other day will help stop your fitness going backwards.
Use the monitor as a guide to what 'easy' is as your heart will tell you what your body is able for in relation to the cold etc.

andrewd: i will be jogging home from work / cycling if I get my bike fixed.

need to keep up the stretching / strength too, not going to be a total lazy bugger!
