| Cristina: | I think my ignorance of 'normal' (eg, non-desert) vegetation is a bonus. I have no idea what nettles are and I'm never really sure whether what I'm running through is poison ivy or not. Maybe if you took the time to unlearn your knowledge you'll find that they're not really that unpleasant. ;-) |

| kissy: | You obviously didn't see my arm this weekend and my recent bout with poison ivy. It is really unpleasant, especially the oozing through my suit sleeves in business meetings. Not very professional or comfortable. I am a very recent convert to being aware of poison ivy, as I didn't think I was allergic to it. Now I know better! Stinging nettles I can deal with, the pain is pretty short-lived. |

| Cristina: | Whoops. Well, I guess you can't really tell your body to forget to have a reaction to it... My bad. Poison ivy sucks. |

| Bash: | I didn't become allergic to poison ivy until my late 30s. Apparently, repeated exposure can make you more sensitive. Like Kissy, I've become *very* good at recognizing it since then. |

| Swampfox: | I've heard of so many people who weren't allergic to poison ivy/oak for much of their lives but who *did* become allergic at some point--often, as with Kissy, with a really unfortunate reaction on that first occasion. Better to know what poison ivy is before the fact and avoid it as much as possible even if you think you aren't allergic or haven't been so far! |

| bbrooke: | It's awful. I had it once, and it looked like the flesh-eating bacteria had gotten ahold of my leg (not to mention the pain and itching). |

| jjcote: | It seems to be more complicated than simply allergic or not. I've had two serious bouts of it, and though I've unquestionably been exposed more times, I usually get just a mild reaction. My father used to be very sensitive, but then it subsided. Just the opposite for my grandfather, who for a long ime would volunteer to pull it up by hand for his friends. I never know when the next bad outbreak will come, so I steer clear, because it's just no fun to spend an entire day in bed crying.
So kissy, how much did the 'roids cost, anyway? |

| kissy: | $4.43 for prednisone and benadryl |
