| ioana: | I would be curious to know how you feel after a month... I'm quite sure you'll find things to fill up your time!! You definetely deserve the time off! |

| chitownclark: | This is more than time off...it is a life-changing moment.
Having "retired" from normal 9-5 work in 1979, when I was 38, I've a little perspective on planning Phase II of your life. I think that you must look upon this change as only a transition to new, more enjoyable, and possibly more challenging work. Never accept the concept of "retirement." That is, sitting around looking for things to fill up your empty hours. I like the continued coaching concept. You didn't get that standing ovation on Monday just because people were glad to see you go. You got it because people were genuinely appreciative of the care and compassion you've showed in your Allendale daily duties over the years. That's rare. Standing ovations are rare. I certainly have never received one. I don't think I've even received a sitting ovation. So isn't that an indication of where your talents lie? Far from retirement, couldn't this be an opportunity to start a youth coaching consulting service that you could sell across the US? And even to countries abroad? Think of it! A tax-deductible trip to the O-Ringen next year! With your relative youth, energy, talent, experience...you could put together an impressive and salable resumé. Wouldn't that be fun? Getting $800/hr for telling people how they should organize and run their coaching? Staffing levels, IT systems, benchmarks, facilities, equipment purchases, discipline methods, training techniques, etc, etc. You could do it all! Finally make use of that Masters degree. In any case, I hope we'll be able to take a couple of O-trips this fall. And maybe XC trips to Europe this winter! |
