jjcote: One thing that I have learned about bicycling is that you see much more detail than you can from a car, because you're moving more slowly. I particularly noticed this when riding form CT to CA back in 1983, and the specific thing that we saw a lot more of was squished animals. (We decided that lizards were the cleverest critters, because we saw a lot of them, but never a dead one.)

bbrooke: I agree! The few times I've travelled abroad and tooled around on a bike, I thought it was a totally different experience than walkiing around in the city center or driving.

You know the sterotypical image of a bird on the grass with a worm in it's mouth? I actually saw that on my way in this morning. ;-)

The prairie dogs around here have a strange lack of fear when it comes to cars. You'd think the noise would scare them, but I see them hanging out on the shoulder all the time, dangerously close to the roadway.

Rosstopher: I think you might be missing that lizards are the tastiest critters, and they get snatched up before you can see the corpses.

there's a far side cartoon with a squirrel that has just run across a very busy street, and a group of thugish small mammals congratulate him saying something like " alright, Ricky's in the club"
