Tooms: Why don't you count one flight and times it by whatever? Good to see crystal clear thinking from an Aus O team member... although I guess you use your computator on the bike to measure things!

BTW, the steps on Jacobs are much smaller (less height each step) than in Central Park... brought a sense of reality to me when I did a couple of practice ascents in Central park prior to the comp when I worked out why I was falling on my face in CP tower. I think jacob's about 2/3 to 3/4 of CP. For most specific training you should attach a nose bag and fill it 1/8 with chalk dust or similar!

Boltboi: so full of helpful hints!!!

fletch: Hate to get you worried about central park, but it's WAAAAY harder than 4 Jacob's ladders (from experience). I did the stair climb the first time based on my Jacob's ladder form expecting to be able to run strongly up the first half then alternate walking and running flights and I lasted about 12 flights then walked the rest...
John's right- the step height is a little higher in Central Park.
Also re Jacobs Ladder, the little plaque near the top tells you how many steps it is...

Tooms: But just relax and enjoy the whole stress-free experience! :-)

MTBjen: Oh you lot are a bundle of laughs.
Humph. First of all, all the flights in jacobs ladder have different numbers of stairs, lots of them odd numbers which is very confusing for my small brain.I started off counting my left foot and suddenly it went "12,16,19,23,27", which was all too hard. And yes, they are little stairs. I was trying to think positive! And what do little plaques know anyway? And why doesn't my bike computer have a stair climbing function? More useful than cadence if you ask me. At least i'm not going to spend my sunday morning sitting in a rocking chair with the cat, talking about how much bigger the stairs were back in The Day... You're all just a bunch of roadies, thats all! Yes, I said it. Roadies.

tRicky: There are 242 stairs. I remember that but I haven't done it for several years. Good ol' useless brain.

Tooms: Richie Benaud's favourite number!
