pfc: Are you on break from teaching right now? Company would have been nice at Nerstrand, although I wasn't sure who was working and who wasn't (in fact I thought I had to work and was pleasantly surprised to find otherwise.) I've been reading up on Spike's blog (okansas.blogspot.com) and one of the recurring themes I see is that the best orienteers spend a lot of time terrain training (duh!) So my NY resolution is to do more of it. It's good practice for both course setting and course running. Not much in the way of holidays after this, though, so weekends will have to do. I would like to terrain train at least once a week, though, so I'll let you know.

It's good to hear the conditions are decent for skate. I've been staying away from classic because of the warm weather - any updates on the set tracks you could give me from your recent workouts?

BTW, I still have those Billy Bragg/Wilco CDs. My schedule the week after PT didn't work out with yours.

Jerritt: My NY resolution is very similar. More O-training in general rather than just at meets. I plan to print some USGS maps too and just run with those.

The classic tracks have remained pretty good. Molly is only classicing this year, so she has skied nearly every day I have. Last night's rain might have done significant damage.
www.skinnyski.com is the place to go for up to date trail reports. Check the "trails" section and follow to area reports.
On Monday, Hyland North loop still had good tracks.
Next week we should get together, get a workout in and hand off the CD's

iriharding: so we are 4 days into the new year and the MNOC gang have jumped way up on AP rankings! way to go guys....now we have to get more folks from MNOC in the AP game. I'm still ahead of Jerritt, how long I can keep up the lead is moot point. Pete is way ahead on total. Molly leads the MNOC ladies . What we need now is some decent snow ! First to 100 controls (POC or meets only) wins a 6 pack of premium ale !

#  Posted 2006-01-06 02:12:24
Jerritt: I am in for the bet of ale. Should I tell you what i want now or after I win? This weekend. Ice fishing with the family. Any creative ways to log that?

O Steve!: I have started logging to help MNOC's efforts....Ian, does setting Afton count?.....if so, I take some old school Light Beer...

Steve ... welcome to AP and welcome to the first to 100 competition

The first to 100 controls in the New Year does inlcude setting and vetting, POC's, and any training courses documented on a map (before heading out to the park). No control counts twice.
So Pete and I are at 23 from yesterday with all my Afton work in 2005 not counting in the score. I will of course help set and pick up at Afton to get the points. If I WOB, LElmo and Wirth POC's then I will get to 100 really soon......

.

O Steve!: ha!....I shouldn't have exposed the lost control at Wirth POC.....I could have kept it to myself.....I did not count up my controls in 2005 but with the O meets, Adv races, and Adventure Runs I figure it was pretty healthy......I'll get some for Afton but I will likely not get the full control counts since we are both puttting them out...and getting help collecting them....

#  Posted 2006-01-10 02:15:41
Jerritt: Steve, That's okay I am part of the challenge and I know I have conflicts both O weekends this winter. BTW if the snow in Hayward forces the cancellation of the Seeley Hills Classic this weekend, you may get a late entry to the AR.

As far as you outtraining me...I'm offended, shocked...oh wait. I'm sure you will too.

O Steve!: Come on out on Sunday...we will ski on whatever is there......now if I can just figure out to put my race scehdule up.....Jerritt did you see that this log is on the top "noisy" list....Minnesota is making an impact....
