| Oxoman: | If it is any consolation, I see the same transient peak at the start of a session. It doesn't last long. Even with a warm-up it can still occur. Warm-up has to be quite a slow increase in tempo otherwise the peak occurs during the warmup. |

| TheInvisibleLog: | I am unsure if this is real or an artefact of the technology. When I am up to running again, I wiil do some watch and finger calibration. |

| Oxoman: | I believe it is the Garmin. |

| Kiplings Mum: | I believe it's silly young /middle aged men taking off at the speed of light and calling that "a warmup'. |

| TheInvisibleLog: | Let's all sing that uplifting spiritual "I believe, I believe, I believe". |

| prez now retired: | I've never registered more than 179 even in my younger days at StreetO so whilst I think Kiplings Mum may be correct, her comments don't apply to me. |

| TheInvisibleLog: | I measured my pulse the old way during my warm up today. The Garmin said 179, the manual measurement was 120. After 5 minutes the Garmin dropped quite quickly down to realistic measurement. I noted that this was just when I started sweating.
During the run the race the Garmin peaked in the mid 170s. It was Mt Tarrengower. |

| phatmax: | Don't have any issues with the GARMIN heart rate. Shows a steady climb from resting rate up to training plateau. Simple rules I follow are make sure strap is tight and a bit of lick helps with the contacts. |

| Oxoman: | I've found that a tightened strap/good electrical contaact works wonders. |

| TheInvisibleLog: | I lick and wonder about lending it to the rest of the family. I think a salty paste might be the answer. The highest I have got my pulse to in real recordings is 183. Mt Tarrengower. |

| Oxoman: | If you maxed at 183, 220-age would make you 37. And your actual max rate will be higher. Seems reasonable for someone of your age and fitness.
Why are you worrying about lending the chest band to the rest of the family? What does the rest of your family think about borrowing a chest band from a strap licker! |
