cedarcreek: Did you reach any consensus why Americans don't orienteer?

BorisGr: Nothing besides the usual: Americans are afraid to let their kids out into the woods while Swedish children spend tons of time in the outdoors; There are too many other sports that are already well-established, and so on...

JesseAH: I think it also definitely has something to do with Boris' prominence in the field. People interested in letting their kids orienteer meet Boris and are then, like "NO fucking way."

Sergey: There is no money in orienteering for big companies and, consequently, there is no government support. Volunteers who try to run the sport in America can do only that much.
