Hi Vlad,you can add my name to the AttackPoint team 1 on the last leg.I had the impression that will have a USA team this year at Jukola.Is that a night leg, or partial night?

Glad to have you, Mihai. We have traditionally had somewhat international teams (last year's two teams came from about 6 countries), but registered as USA. You will need to be proficient with the Emit punching system to eliminate the chance of a mispuch like we had last year. Even though you may be familiar with the system, you would need a refresher. This will mean arriving in Finland no later than Thursday morning of the Jukola weekend, and running one event and the Jukola model start before the actual Jukola.

Leg 7 is all daylight. It is also 15 km.

We got a chick team? Woot! I didn't think it was going to happen. Have you got confirmation from all of them Vlad?

By the way Vlad, are we going to stay in the house that Matthias mentioned in this post?

Don't know—Matthias? And, the elusive CSU team... Is it?

Mihai:
Yes Vlad I am somewhat familiar with the Emit punching (WOC 99 Scotland) and a few other events that I ran in Europe, but some refreshing won't hurt and I am planing to arrive 2-3 days earlier anyhow. The 15 km sounds great,in daylight anyhow.

I'd like to get on Team AttackPoint 2. What happened to all the people who said that they were interested back last summer? I thought we had enough for almost two full teams. I would really like to go so I hope there is interest. Someone please adopt me. :-)

I would plan to arrive around June 10 so that my wife and I can get some other O events in and also spend some time as tourists.

I was interested and seem to have fallen off the list. Put me back on for team N where N>>1.

I guess I need to unlurk here to let Vlad know that I am definitely NOT going. It seems that in BAOC, if you tell people you are even slightly thinking about going, they automatically put you on the confirmed list :-)

Vlad, I am interested in going this year.

Still no word from the mysterious CSU...

I'm out. I think matthias and two of his friends are going though.

...were thinking of going. nothing confirmed yet, job situation is not very clear for me so have to keep decision on hold for a while.

Re John's comment about the house in Finland, haven't spoken to the guy who had originally offered it since last Jukola, so nothing confirmed there either...

I think i am out too, especially if i am going to the Yukon and then Wyoming. By the way, anyone planning on going up to Yukon for the Canadians in the summer?
Feb 5, 2004 12:05 AM #
jtorranc:
Eddie says he's planning on doing the Canadians and Wyoming. I'll be at the Canadians and Barebones preceding them but pass on Wyoming - would that I had that much vacation time.

The Golden Horseshoe OC is looking for a 'few good men' to round out its team (perhaps a CSU-GHO merger??). I will be in Tampere from about the 5th or 6th of June.

Alright:

* AttackPoint 1 needs Leg 3 and Leg 5.
* AttackPoint 2 needs 3 more people.
* Generally, with 2 men's teams, I'd say we need 3–4 more sort-of-committed people.

I have an idea. Instead of having all these different teams (GHO, CSU, and Attackpoint) why don't we just make a team of the best North American Orienteers? Then maybe we can at least earn a little respect for our little continent.
Feb 7, 2004 3:55 AM #
Mihai:
That sounds like a good idea, since so many people are planing to go ,but I would say, since Vlad is devoting so much time, on getting people toghether,he will have to be the one making a decision first and then ask people if they agree.

I'm fine either way. There is a lot to club pride, but realistically, no North American club, with the possible exception of CSU (but, apparently, not this year) is capable of fielding a full 7-person team. By capable I mean there are athletes and there are funds.

I would think that AttackPoint 1 could benefit from those GHOers, and the one/two CSUers (Matthias/Abi?) who may be attending. Hey, if so, maybe myself would be pushed off to AttackPoint 2—and I'm totally fine with that.

I have entered 2 Jukola and 1 Venla team. Entry and the army tent will set you back approximately $37 this year. Barring a dollar crash.

Team A! 1 is full. All people who wrote me with positive intentions will be on a mailing list and will receive a message before the end of the next week.
