| Jon X: | I had every confidence you would be there any minute and was right there waiting - I just couldn't see you through the crush of people waiting to take over, they all seemed to be about 7 feet tall! You are right though, it was a very plaintive cry I heard! |

| Lard: | You don't know you've lived until you've done first leg!
Well done Rosco - I had brown pants when I did Tio 1st leg and that's a punters race compared to Jukola! |

| Alibongo: | Must have been a fantastic race, sooo exciting - evidently! Can I suggest disposable pants next time guys? |

| hel vino: | You are by far the best orienteering writer I have ever come across. Surely there is a gap in the market here? We need to send some of Rosco's stuff to a literary agent. |

| hel vino: | Ok well Ruth Forrest's "the bird who said lightbulb" was also total genius but you are the best actually writing about orienteering. |

| paw: | Rosco as the Norman Mailer of orienteering...it's a thought! I've often thought there was scope for rewriting The Naked And The Dead as a mountain marathon. |

| Rosco: | Well thanks hel vino. Although I can't imagine you have come across many orienteering writers... Mind you, I may need a new career rather soon....
I would like to find out more about the bird who said lightbulb. I remember trying to read The Naked and the Dead as a teenager - I had thought it sounded a bit racy - but found it rather boring.... |

| paw: | It takes a lot of getting into, but by half-way through I was hooked (if my memory serves me correctly I read it during my first ever Jukola trip in 1994).
I chose Mailer because he's always cited as an example of literary journalism (or journalistic literature). Maybe Hunter S Thompson would be a better comparison - certainly not as boring anyway. 'Fear And Loathing In Tampere' would be a good read... |
