| nicki: | Hi there....you wrote on my log, but I don't yet know you!! Yep, I'll be returning to Perth this October. I'm very excited to come 'home' finally but one of the things I'm worried about is whether I can plug into an AR community there. I do about 5-6 ARs a year in Canada, US and other places and I really hope that there will be at least a little bit available in Oz. I'll definitely start showing up on the orienteering scene sometimes toward the end of the year. |

| MTBjen: | It'll be good to have some more girls around! There are only a couple of WA races, all of which are just before october... but there are some smaller events, and the anaconda race in november and is always popular and good fun, have a look at www.rapidascent.com.au |

| tRicky: | Evo isn't an orienteerer - he's just a lunatic. |

| Tooms: | Two "real" races - Great Southern Adventure Race in September. Caffeinated AR in August. Mickey mouse AR (TEVA) in July.
Multisports abound... Collie (October), Anaconda (November), Moore River (?), others?? Lots more AR "over east", the keen ones of us fly over for a race once a year or so. |

| MTBjen: | Lunatic perhaps, but he found more controls on sunday than tooms did... |

| Evo: | Thats correct you dont know me or the rest i gather.
I noticed you added a note to the Painathlon section on the discussion page a week back then saw your name at the TOP of the training tree this week so had a gander at what you do. All of us on this page and more on AP do alot of training and races together,MTBJen one of the best women around here racing.Perth is not big for ARs but we are starting to get alot more and alot more people are doing them which helps as the cost to run them is plenty so not enough people doing them = no races.Anyway we may all catch up with you one day and your welcome to join in any training/races.Cheers |

| nicki: | Thanks for the low-down. I'll definitely be keen to meet the AR folk back in Perth. I've been pretty lucky over the last few years to get some epic AR experiences in North America - one expedition in Mexico, seven 36 hour races in the Rockies and Nevada, and countless shorter races all over the place. I'm lucky to have some sponsorship funding to keep the costs down. I am a rare combination of being a lead navigator and female. That comes from my orienteering background. I'm also a triathlete and will be representing Canada later this year at the World ITU Long course champs in Europe. My first order of business when returning home is to do Busso Ironman. Then I'm going to retire from tri's and concentrate a lot more seriously on my orienteering and AR. I'm definitely willing to travel to big events and am hoping to hook up with a strong and fun team in Oz. I'm very sad to leave my all-time favourite AR teammates here in Alberta - Lost in Transition.
See ya later this year. |

| tRicky: | Dumping triathlons to focus on orienteering and AR = win. |

| MTBjen: | Er, thanks for the support evo but i think it says more about the size and standard of the field here than about me |
| # Posted 2008-06-25 11:53:34 | |
| Eoin: | MTBjen - didn't you just get selected to represent Australia in the MTBO World Champs? You could argue "small fields" but people have to be capable of racing at that level - there aren't that many, hence a small field. |
| # Posted 2008-06-25 12:09:29 | |
| Tooms: | Oh no, not the put-myself-down syndrome that otherwise uber-talented people have. There's enough other people out there prepared to sledge so we have to all believe in ourselves! MTBjen, you dragged my sorry backside through 450km of the Keen AR, particularly the rogaine... as predicted, you were stronger than me for that sort of stuff. And yeah, so I'm not a guru AR person, but I'm not exactly bad at rogaines n' stuff! |
| # Posted 2008-06-25 12:14:06 | |
| tRicky: | Hi Tooms
Will you go rogaining with me? I'm real good at it. Jen - Eoin is right. Most of the rest of the female population of Perth wouldn't dare tackle the stuff you do, hence why you're the best of a small field. |

| MTBjen: | Oooh you are all lovely but i read some of nicki's log and am very afraid, so felt i should cover myself.
And John, put-myself-down syndrome? Pot callling kettle and all, are you not (and i quote) "WA's own epic prodigy and tireless champion of cross country running, orienteering and endurance sports" ? I never dragged you anywhere (maybe just pushed a bit from behind, at times :) |

| Boltboi: | ahh the harmony of ego's |
| # Posted 2008-06-25 20:50:37 | |
| nicki: | MTBjen....you have no need to be afraid of me!! I do train hard and race hard, but I party and drink beer equally as hard so it all counter-balances itself. I'm ALL about the fun side of things. I'm looking forward to meeting you and getting some mtb tips from you. |
| # Posted 2008-06-26 10:06:09 | |
| Tooms: | Oh-oh, she'll take you out to "fun" places and say things like "this bit's fun" and "it's easy, you just gobbledegookassumedtalentandabilityeasypeasey" and then you confronted with something that's difficult to walk through! I suppose I have improved by listening to other non-threatening useful tips though, like how to corner and stuff. Or maybe I was always gonna improve once I actually rode my MTB... ;-) |
