| fthfl stwrd rudy: | wish i had that problem. lately I've been waking up at 6 am no matter how late i stayed up, 11, 12pm, and can't fall back asleep. so today I'd roll over, make a conscious effort to try to sleep a little longer, and finally I gave up figuring it was later than usual, looked at the clock and...yep, it was 6am.
so what is the 3 hour sleep cycle? |

| bill_l: | I usually wake at 6 too, but can often go back to sleep, especially in recovery mode.
The body goes through sleep cycles. Vary from person to person, but in general they run 2.5 to 3ish hours. And they can vary in length for a single person. Mine tend to run about 2.75 to 3. Theory is that to get full benefit you need the whole cycle. Waking up in the middle is same or worse than waking up at the end of the previous cycle. So on a three hour cycle, adding a fourth hour of sleep isn't beneficial. (in theory).... |
