Slice: I didn't realize it was an Epic.....Welcome to club Epic! :)

FB: I feel left out ;-)... I mean ;-(

Bash: Thanks, Slice! And FB, you ARE left out. ;-)

It's a bright red - albeit mud-covered - M5 alloy Epic Expert. The Epic model range from basic to fanciest is: Epic Comp, Epic Expert [M5 alloy or carbon], Epic Marathon [M5 alloy or carbon], S-Works Epic [carbon only]. Leanimal rides a top-of-the-line S-Works, if you want to be *really* jealous, FB.

urthbuoy: I road an S-works back in the day. It was solid frame though, so I eventually had to move on.

Bash: Gears recommended against carbon frames for adventure racing, since they sometimes respond badly to being banged around in trucks. Just as well, since an S-Works would have been over $7K with tax - yikes! It was a relief to have the bike store guy telling me that I ought to spend less money. (I need to save it for that new geothermal system, after all.)

urthbuoy: Bash,

Out of curiosity, what are your rebates in Ontario for the geothermal? Are the fed funds being matched by the province?

#  Posted 2008-07-03 22:17:05
Bash: It's confusing, but we're expecting at least $8,000 in rebates. A friend got over $12,000 back on his system last month, and I'm not sure how he did that! Ontario rebates the retail sales tax that the contractor paid, plus a $3,500 grant for installing the ground source heat pump, which I understand is matched by the feds. You know of anything else?

#  Posted 2008-07-03 23:00:48
urthbuoy: I had thought that Ontario matched the fed's ($3750). In BC, we don't charge PST (just GST) so that seems similar to what you have going on there, just a little bit more confusing. BC only puts in $1250 towards it though.

Bash: Confusing, but ultimately it will be a good deal. The problem is that these geothermal guys are so busy that it's hard to get their attention. Here's Ontario's grant website - maybe there is another $250 buried in there. It's hard to wade through it all.

'Bent: Here's the Powerhouse program summary page which has various rebates near the bottom:

They claim $7,000 in federal and provincial rebates + Home energy audit rebate: $150 + Ontario PST Rebate.

urthbuoy: Tell FB about this! I know he's thinking about being Shine Energy's "centre of the Universe Location":-)

Leanimal: Bash you failed to mention that my S-Works is a bit of an antique right now and it's starting to show it's age.....oh and I got an absolute STEAL on it. Apparently it's former owner was told it was not good for his back to ride it....I never mentioned treatment of course..
