phatmax: The exact timing is always difficult, but I would have thougt you could have picked up 50 on the way through, down the gully from the track, and then continued along the track/watercourse . That would have also given the possibility of 31 if things had been going well.

TheInvisibleLog: That was the plan at 36, but by the time I had crested the hill 300 metres to the east of 36, I realised I just had to run and forget everything else. I ran the watercourse between 31 and 50. I finished with 4 seconds to spare. Control 50 would have given me 20 points. I doubt I could have got in and back out in less than 2 minutes, so it was always going to cost more than it was worth. Same for 31 which was worth only 10 points.

phatmax: Was thinking more of continuing along the track from the hill top and then down the gully straight past 50 to the watercourse. Would have been a nett 400m further on tracks, but 200m shorter through the forest, and a gentler downhill leg.

TheInvisibleLog: I think I have to put this up on route cadget so we can see what each other is talking about.

Oxoman: Good idea. Then the rest of us interested lurkers can learn too.

TheInvisibleLog: Just reread my hurried post. When I typed 4 minutes to spare... I meant to type 4 seconds. All will now make sense to readers failing to make sense of my logic. The next finisher after me was Tim Hatley, and they allowed him a grace second as he came in after the clock beep. So I was really the last on-time runner back. It was a really hard run to catch the deadline and I was particularly sore yesterday because of that last 15 minutes. The increase in speed and in heart rate are both clearly visible in Garmin logbook graphs. I might put them up instead of the gadget.
The one consolation was that i really did pick when to cut loose and just run. Pity I didn't make sense at the 90 minute mark.
