FB: And great report. Thanks for another fun report with great pics.

I hope they run it again next year.

Bash: Me too. I suspect they made no money from it this year, so my fingers are crossed.

slowrunner: sweet job you two!! sounded like fun!!

'Bent: It was a blast! FB, you'd love this format, as would a lot of experienced racers. So much route choice, and paddle vs run options!

One female team of 2 paddled a route through swamps and creeks that nobody expected was possible. We took a fast light boat that's not that tough or manoeverable, so we wouldn't want to bash it through rocks and creeks.

A mega-portageur like you with a tough boat could really throw a monkey wrench in the works.

phatty: Right on guys, super execution! I've never seen a clean and jerk and run like Bent's when hauling that boat around. Rock on!

Bash: Thanks for the race volunteering and cheerleading, Phatty. It was great to have you there!

'Bent: Umm, thanks Phatty, but it was the old "heave the light boat" trick.
PS Thanks also for volunteering there.

carbon: Great race story! Congrats you two! What is your new bike, Bash?

#  Posted 2008-07-17 05:35:24
Bash: Specialized Epic Expert. What is *your* new bike, Carbon?

#  Posted 2008-07-18 08:29:04
carbon: I got the Trek Fuel EX 9.0 (oh, sooooo sweeeet!) and yes, it is carbon :)

#  Posted 2008-07-18 09:25:09
Bash: I figured it must be carbon! :-) My bike store discouraged me from buying a carbon frame due to my bad habit of letting my bike get banged against other bikes in adventure race trucks on bumpy roads. But ooooh, the carbon bikes were soooo nice!!

#  Posted 2008-07-18 19:44:58
carbon: My bike shop in Calgary did a test on a carbon and aluminum frame where they hit each directly on the top tube with a hammer and the aluminum frame was dented to the point where they would not ride it on the first hit and it took the carbon frame three more bangs before it cracked and you could not ride it. I guess also from riding a carbon bike for the last 12 years, I'm not too worries about it. It's been through the test :)
Your bike is a ver sweet ride too though! I test rode 5 bikes before I made up my mind and the Specialized was one of them. Bike shopping is so much fun (but expensive)!

Bash: Glad I didn't know that before I went shopping. There was a nice carbon Specialized S-Works in the store too... :-)
