| fthfl stwrd rudy: | Matt, do you want to get together to go over course possibilities? Do you have any time tommorrow? |

| MDeVoll: | Sure. What time would you want to get together, and where? I live in UCity and would have an hour or so sometime in the evening. (We're going out of town on Saturday so we'll be busy in the evenings this week getting ready, but I can get out of the house for a short while.)
One quick question: are you pretty familiar with the trail system to the east of the road leading to the beginning shelter? It seems that last time I went out that way (last summer) the trails were a little different than on the map (the one ordered from SLOC), but for now I'll go ahead and picked some spots based on the trails that are on the map. At any rate, I suppose at some point one or both of us will go out and scout out the current terrain. |

| fthfl stwrd rudy: | another possibilty is e-mail each maps and comment back and forth, might be more practical for now?
trails are definetely problematic. White courses are supposed to be largely based on trails, and we don't really have enough. And you are right, there is a new trail from the lower picnic ground up to the trail head shelter, and some of the indistinct trails are really not there any more. |

| MDeVoll: | I'd like to get together in person if possible. Would you want to get a beer somewhere? It's short notice, but today (Wed) would work best for me.
I'd suggest working to the west of the shelter for the white route. It would be extremely straightforward, since we would have only the one loop to work with, but I measured out the distance of that loop and the height climbed, and it works out to being within the range for distance, and at the upper limit for height gain for a white route. Also, since it's August, it will be hot as hell, and keeping the route straightforward might be to our advantage so the white folks have a good time. We could then try extending the orange to include either to the north, or the east (if in the east, putting orange controls along linear features like streams or cliff faces and telling orange folks not to rely on trails on the map). My only question is whether we want to include the white route controls in the orange route, since orange routes usually don't have such obvious controls. Food for thought. Let me know if you want to get together! You can always call me on my cell (607-7028). |

| fthfl stwrd rudy: | Good points, Matt. We definitely dont want to make them climb some monster hills. But not sure just following one trail loop around quite qualifies as a course?? Good question about the white controls on orange. I was thinking we'd follow Yvonne's lead - she had a different set of instructions for the intermediate course at the white controls, for example, she had some of them be memory 'o', pace counting practice, etc..
Keep in mind that orange can have advanced control locations as long as they have an attackpoint and a catching feature. lets not get too detailed here about course ideas, don't want to spoil it for anyone who might be attending. |
