kissy: On my last bike ride, I hit 31 mph going downhill and had a total rush. Especially since the speed limit was 25...tee hee.

jjcote: When I was living in Boulder, the cool short ride was to go up to Lefthand Canyon and come back over Old Stage Rd. (I think I'm remembering those names correctly). And coming down Old Stage, you tried to see what kind of top speed you could hit. I can't remember the speeds, but I'm pretty sure they were 50+. The catch is that partway down, there's a road coming in from the right, and although you're the one going straight, you have a stop sign and they have the right of way. One time my brother-in-law blew through the stop sign as a car was going through. He hit the side of the car, did a somersault in the air, and landed right-side-up on the other side (on his feet, I think). Damage to him was minimal, but I believe to the bike was substantial (and I don't remember how badly the car was dented). Of course, he does have serious back problems, but I think they predate this incident.

vmeyer: Well, I was sort of hoping for 30 since that is the speed limit, and there is often a speed trap at the bottom of the hill. I could have asked the officer for the reading. :)

JanetT: I feel very, very uncomfortable doing more than about 30-35 mph on a bicycle. Just not enough protection, despite the bike helmet. (Not that I've biked in a few years...)

vmeyer: Hit 29.4 mph today, and that was quite fast enough, thank you very much. I would never be mistaken for a thrill seeking person (guy?) as J-J described.
