triple-double: I hope it will be fun. What workshop is it?

Sandy: We had to choose between three workshops: teaching orienteering in schools, teaching beginners (adults) and organizing events. So I picked organizing hoping to get some good pointers for things to think about when organizing. But it turned out that we had to plan activities for the club members of one of the organizer's clubs - the little kids who were coming to Oringen with families and who had never orienteered (those who picked schools), adults who came but had never orienteered, and the orienteers of the club. So my group had to throw together some training courses yesterday and then today we went and hung the controls, registered people, did download and then picked up controls. It turned out to not be so bad and I appreciated getting out in the woods to hang controls, but I don't think it was what anyone really wanted.

triple-double: Huh. I'm glad that it was not so bad, but really they took advantage of your group with this one. I hope that the other activites will be a bit more helpful. Maybe they thought that the people in the academy never set local courses before, and would need a tutorial? But surely anyone who would travel to the o-ringen academy already has a whole lot of orienteering and organizing experience!

Sandy: There are about 30 of us with all different levels of experience. I don't think anyone really has a good idea about exactly what the Oringen Academy is supposed to be and I think a lot of people came with no real idea of what it was about (including me). For some, it's a great way to participate in a huge Scandanavian event for the first time since there's been someone to show us how to get around, how to use the busses, and stuff like that. Also, most of our meals and housing and rides to and from nearby train stations was all included in the single price making it really easy. And we were here for 5 days before it started which was nice since we got used to where everything was.

Anyway, I don't mean to complain about the Academy since for the most part it's been really great.
