Discussion: What did you decide?!

vmeyer: BTW, the taskmaster does like to visit new places. I don't think she has been to, um, what state do you live in right now? ;)

maprunner: We still live in MO. I can't wait to move to KS for two reasons in particular: 1) I'm the only member of my immediate family who has only lived in 2 states and 2) it is embarrassing to be the President of Orienteer Kansas and have never lived in the state :)

As for the garage, the decision was already made (since we've been pretty lazy house cleaners for the past eight years). The discussion is what do we do in the next house?

vmeyer: I would have to think that (besides any oil that the car drops on the floor) any sorting out is WAY EASIER than cleaning a baked on greasy stove. That is, in my opinion, straight organization, even after eight years, is a "piece of cake." Of course, if one partner is more adverse to getting rid of things than the other, then the task is made that much harder. That is why I wait until Roger leaves town. :)

I was thinking about Peggy/Nadim and you/Spike - the things we think are "no biggie" because we live with them may be "deal breakers" when it comes to selling/buying a house. It isn't easy, so stay strong!!

vmeyer: I never thought about how many states I have lived until you posted it, but that is interesting to think about... I was born in Annapolis (Naval Academy Hospital, though I didn't actually live there), then two years in England while my father was in the military (Korean War), then 20 years in Maryland (5 addresses - 2 growing up, 1 college, 2 post graduate), and the rest in Virginia (2 addresses - 1 for three years, and 1 for 23+ years).

Around here, it is not uncommon to get the question "Where are you from?" I am usually a little embarrassed that to say that I have only come as "far" as Annapolis/Baltimore.

peggyd: When you're buying, you're looking for perfection/ideal or at least as close to it as you can get. So the things we think are "no biggie" are things that we may have just gotten used to (or never had in the first place -- e.g., a friend of mine completely doesn't understand my desire for a garage, because she's never had one).

I think keeping something clean is a whole lot easier than major cleaning later (though I'm pretty lazy about the former...). I found while our house was on the market that after the initial cleaning, it really wasn't that big a deal to keep the house neat on a day-to-day basis. But as soon as we could, we let that effort go and it would take more work to clean than the sum of the daily effort. For what that's worth.

gail: I'm for having Valerie's mom visit!--which I'm sure is easier if you are not Valerie :-)

Swampfox: A lot might depend on just how infested the garage in question is with black widows--as I have heard some are.
