Sandy: Glad to hear you taking away all sorts of positive things from the event - particularly the knowledge that when things are clicking you can run with the best of them. I saw some of the map clips that Peter posted and that looks like tough terrain to "understand". It took a lot of staring at the map (and I'm sitting still at my computer with no pressure to find a control) to even have an inkling of what the terrain might look like in terms of what was up and what was down. I finally was able to piece together some ridge tops and so on, but on the run? No way! And keeping map contact without a sort of large picture of the terrain in your head is really hard. So good for you!

Cristina: Yeah, I hadn't seen any previous copies of the map until Sat morning. I was expecting flat and open desert terrain, and instead here was this map that I could barely make sense of while standing still. So I was more than a little nervous at the start, wondering how the hell I was going to find anything. But, as usual, maps make more sense when you're focusing on one little segment, relating the big picture back to it. And now, after running there, the map makes 2000x more sense, and pops out at me like other ones do. Though all the little detail is still a bit frightening.

maprunner: Mike taught me to ask "what went right today" rather than what went wrong. It's more fun to learn from your successes, and to work on repeating them Keep up the good work!

Cristina: Thanks!

I agree, it is much more fun to learn from successes. In fact, I tend to file away my bad days and focus on the good ones when I look back at old courses. I figure as long as I know what I need to work on and apply that knowledge, there's no need to dwell on a sucky run.

Suzanne: I just put up my splits (as per your suggestion) on attackpoint. Nice job on the last four controls in particular... you definately showed nice speed and consistency coming in, a time when I sometimes find it easy to lose either speed or focus (or both).

It was great getting to hang out with you over the weekend as well. Hope to see you at another meet soon.
