On behalf of Donna Fluegel (Meet Director) and Mikell Platt (Course Setter), I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped out last week at Laramie Daze and the US Championships. Now that I've compiled what I think is a comprehensive volunteer list, I'm amazed at how many people were involved. LROC essentially has just one member; we could not have pulled off this event without the assistance of all the volunteers who stepped up from other clubs around the country. Thank you again! You are all fantastically generous to spend your race weekend helping to run the meet.

-- Brooke Mann, Registrar & Webmaster

Volunteer List

General

  • Meet Director: Donna Fluegel.

  • Meet Equipment: Doug Berling and Troy Bozarth.

Doug compiled a detailed inventory of everything in RMOC's storage unit. He transported a truckload of gear to Laramie and hauled it around all week. He arrived early all seven days to help us set up and to distribute equipment to the Start / Finish / Registration as needed. He also stayed late each day to help pack everything up.

Troy hauled around a bunch of equipment all week, too. He arrived early and left late all seven days, since he was helping with set-up and tear-down.

  • Registration Table: Brooke Mann, Troy Bozarth, Kris Beecroft.

  • T-Shirt Artwork: Libby Ellis.

  • T-Shirt Production: Bob Ellis.

  • Tech-Tee Design & Production: Brooke Mann, Troy Bozarth.

  • Lodging Coordinator: Kathleen Brennan.

If you referenced the handy spreadsheet listing of all of Laramie's hotel rates, thank Kathleen!

  • Meet Packets & Race Bag Assembly: Brooke Mann & Troy Bozarth.

    Laramie Daze

  • Course Setter: Mikell Platt.

Between the morning races and the afternoon training areas, Mikell set 23 different courses for these five days. Not to mention the additional 16 courses he set for Saturday and Sunday...!

  • White Courses: Craig Murray.

  • Start Table / Map Handout: Mikell Platt, Ludwig Hill, Jim Hall, Troy Bozarth, Kris Beecroft.

  • One-Man Relay Helpers: Dennis Wildfogel, Chuck Spalding, Michael Schneiderman, Carl Moore, Jim Hall.

  • Control Pick-up: Mike Minium, Peter Goodwin, Jim Hall, Kris Beecroft, Mikell Platt.

    Pizza Party

  • Anna Shafer-Skelton created the sign-up poster.

  • Various Juniors solicited sales throughout the week, along with a little bit of help from Mike Minium.

  • Linda Kohn and Rick Worner handled ordering and pickup of 70+ pizzas. They also recycled the empty pizza boxes.

  • The Underwood Family helped with overall organization and also lent the use of their campsite.

  • Samantha Saeger organized the Junior volunteer crew for pizza distribution.

    US Championships

  • Course Setter: Mikell Platt.

  • Vetters: Bob & Virginia Lehman, Steve Levin & Sheryl Lehman, JP Ingebrigtsen.

  • Sign Placement & Retrieval: Leif Anderson, Maiya Anderson.

  • Parking Attendant: Rick Armstrong, Rich Kelly.

  • Childcare: Maya Rounds. (Nicole Koehler had also volunteered to do childcare, but we only had one kid to look after!)

  • Start Crew: Rob Wilkison (Chief), Gary Thies, Sharon Crawford, Carl Moore, Linda Kohn, Rick Worner, Lindsay Worner, Rolf & Sue Kuestner, Rex Winterbotttom, Jim Fish, Greg Lennon, Carol Campbell, Terry Farrah.

Gary Thies was singled out for special recognition. Even though Gary wasn't on our original list of volunteers, he stepped up to help and it was reported that he worked longer at the Start than anyone else, doing 90% of the whistleblowing.

  • Finish Line Set-up and Tear-Down: Doug Berling (Chief), Jeff Saeger, Michael Rounds, Bradley Rounds, Maya Rounds, Troy Bozarth, Kris Beecroft, Terry Farrah, Sharon Crawford.

  • Timing / Results: J-J Coté (Chief), Nancy Koehler, Nicole Koehler, Sam Listwak, Evan Custer, Harvey Woo, Stephen Koehler, Bradley Rounds, Terry Farrah, Clare Durand, Greg Lennon.

  • Post-Race Water & Vitalyte: Bill Gookin & Jo Gookin.

  • Post-Race Food & Snacks: Donna Fluegel and Chuck & Linda Ferguson bought massive quantities of fruit and snacks. Michael Rounds transported all of Saturday's leftover food. Trisha Underwood and the Junior Team organized the snack table at the Finish each day and handled all aspects of snack distribution.

  • Jury: Evan Custer, Chuck Ferguson, Peter Goodwin.

  • Miscellaneous: Terry Farrah offered to step in as "assistant to the meet director" if needed. Fortunately, all went smoothly and she was not called on to help! Terry's willingness to help is appreciated.

  • Vendors: Ed Hicks (Orienteering Unlimited), Gale Teschendorf (GO Orienteering), and Joe Scarborough (Scarborough Orienteering).

[*If anyone has specific volunteer names wherever there's a reference to "the Junior Team", please let me know. Also, let me know if I left anyone out. -- Brooke]

    Thanks to everyone who helped!

And now a request... Does anyone have a picture of the US Champs? Did the M/F-21s stay for the awards and long enough for some fotos?

Also....it turns out I have ONE tech-tee left. (I thought it was for someone else, but he says he got his at the meet.)

It's a Large. The cost is $18 including shipping (US / Canada), PayPal preferred. Whoever speaks up first (in this thread) gets it.

(This is a white, short-sleeved, tech-tee with the orange and brown Laramie Daze logo.)

I'd say they run a tiny bit large, and they don't shrink.
