Acampbell: Hi Martin,
I'm Alison Campbell, John Campbell's daughter I met you at the Scottish 6-days last year.

I was just looking at your blog and the map with your routes from tonight's course and was wondering what was the white woods like? As i noticed you took the trails almost all the time. Do you think it was faster to take the trails or to cut through the woods? As a few of these legs from just looking at the map i would probably cut through and that got me in trouble a few times this summer on some of my courses. So i guess my main question is how do you decide when to cut through and when not to? especially when you are not familiar with the terrain?

Oh and dad says "or did you not cut through because you are getting like me?, an old fart"

forest grump: I mainly cut through the wood, and although it was muddy (but not as bad as the paths), it seemed the better route even at this time of year with the veg up. (oh and I was 5 mins quicker!!!)

Dixie: Hi Alison. Your dad's right - I'm an old fart - or at least I'm an aspirant one who orienteered like one last night! Had no desire or energy to push through the terrain - in part because I'm still knackered from last weekends Purple Thistle! There was some bracken and other undergrowth to contend with, but had I been more motivated I'm sure I would have gone much more direct. As it was I was, I treated it as a training event, whimped out, took it easy and gave Forest Gump one of his rare victories over me!!!!
Hope your O season is going well and that you're kicking your Dad's butt when you run against him!
