My name is Eddie, and I approve this message.

Oh man. Yes its all true. I had my ass handed to me by Gail on a 30-meter leg. In my defense, she is a NAOC medal winner. What can I say. Heading in I saw Tom Carr on blue, He went low along the base, and I stayed high, going up the trail slightly to a bend so I could come right down the reentrant into the control. Beat Tom in and punched with Gail. I had already read the next leg and knew I just needed to get out to the road for a long road run. 16 is where we had to turn over our 2-sided map, so as I was leaving 16 I was unfolding, flipping and re-folding. I glanced up a couple of times to see where the road was and just went straight to where I could see people running. Didn't remember the small detail of an uncrossable marsh between me and the road.

So I get to the edge of the marsh. I said a bad word, then looked to my right in the direction I should have gone to minimize the damage (i.e. back the way I came). But pride took over. "I can just jam across this little marsh." In I went, trying to land my feet on the clumps of grass. Mostly successful until the last couple of steps where I went in to my chest and nearly lost my SI in the mud. Finally dragged myself onto the road and turned, dripping wet, towards the south. There, before my eyes, about 40m ahead of me, were both Tom and Gail just cruising up the road - dooot dee dee. Embarrassed and covered in muck, I turned up the gas and tried to get past their grinning faces as fast as I could :)

Great story! The Swamp Queen managed to stay clear of all swamps this weekend. Though quitting after 3 on Sunday eliminated most of the temptation/opportunity.
