What did everyone else think? Was there any consensus among the group on the usefulness or uselessness of the exercise?

I thought that was next week. The poll said Oct. 7th. Did I miss another cool training?

Sorry Charlie, you missed it. :-(

I decided to try not using a poll. The event was on the OTNT calender, with a reminder sent one day ahead and also an initial email announcement went out to the group about a week ago.

Yeah, we're still on for next week (the 7th). And it will be cool.

Twas a good exercise . Got into the rhythm ; was having headlamp brightness vs bifocals glasses alighment issues that made it hard sometimes to read the map and run at same time . May visit REI and buy another lamp to help with that .

The exercise would be helped by having flagging tape so that the "double -check that i am at the right spot" task would not need to be done ).

The other thing to do would be have 2 punches about 10m apart and run back and forth to fill up a punch card (or e stick) (and record that time) ... so actually working on punching technique.
I could set that up with e-punch and regular punch. (future OTNT)

It was noticeable that all the engineer type turned up for OTNT on Tuesday and the social studies majors types hadn't figured out the timing... oh well.

Over by 15-16 I had to put out a hand to avoid running into a big oak tree as I looked up from the map. That wouldn't have been good.

O Steve!:
sorry I missed it but figured it had to much "jiggle" factor with night time running on uneven terrain.....

Ian, I like this headlamp. Great features and for a low price. I'll never buy another headlamp without "power-regulation" again. I noticed that all the wedaliettes were sporting them last night.

Great. I actually could have made it last night. I even asked Pete on Sunday if there was an OTNT this week and he said "no." I thought the e-mail reminder was a mistake and that you had moved the planned event last night to next week. Bummer.
Next week I will be driving back from Ely, having done the round-trip to drop students off for a Boundary Waters Trip. So no luck for me.
I hope to be at the Adventure Run on Friday, though.

Ya, I screwed that one up. I had forgotten about it until I saw the reminder email on Monday.
