Bash: Actually, I do the same thing whenever a medical problem arises, and it's a great way to scare oneself silly. I don't know if you have a sports chiropractor or physio whom you see regularly, but our guy always advises continuing to use and move the injured body part as much as possible (within reason, given the injury), in order to avoid the formation of the scar tissue they mention in that article. Our chiro also has deep tissue massage techniques to remove old scar tissue, but I think it's too early in the healing process for you to need that.

I got a bad quad bruise in an adventure race last fall, and was amazed at how the pain knocked the breath out of me - especially when I slammed it into a log a second time while moving through the forest in the dark. It looked nasty and swollen, but it did go away eventually.

jtorranc: Sorry but I tried blithe ignorance and it didn't work. Though I think I'm done with research now that I've seemingly confirmed that I'm now doing more or less what I ought to do until and unless the medical profession advises a change.
