Roger, looks like you're getting some good quality workouts in. We should have a 1600m time trial on the track and see if your speed has improved. Pick a date and I'll run one too. We'll see how close we are (with my zero training and your speedy gonzales workouts).

cool! how about next tuesday? it would be good to see, here we have a 3000m challenge every 2-4 months to test the speed improvements, last time i did it nov8 and it took me 12m11s, we could do that one too, or keep it at the mile, pain for less long :)
Feb 4, 2009 11:00 PM #
Wildsky:
I'm up for 1600 next tues as well
Feb 4, 2009 11:21 PM #

FrankTheTank:
Next Tues I will be gone on a trip, but I can do it the following Tues. (Feb 17) We should get Bone in on this too. I'm curious to see what his speed is at right now. It looks like he's been training pretty hard also.

roschi:
actually then we need to do it feb24, send us a reminder email a day before, next weekend i have a 50k (las trampas, with over 10'000 feet of elevation game!) on saturday and doing a 100M road ride on monday (holiday) so tuesday would be a bad idea to try to run fast..

I'd love to join, but I don't have a track nearby. Let me know if 2x this loop counts as well?

michi, yep, that looks great, i wonder if i ll ever beat you on a one mile comparison even though you havent done speed workouts in a couple of years..., the 24th is great, will give me two more weeks to practice!
Feb 5, 2009 3:54 PM #
Wildsky:
we should get nickoli as well

I think I'd be game for this. February 24 coincides with the beginning of the first VO2max interval week I have scheduled, so this will start it with a bang. I don't know how well prepared I'll be before doing any VO2max intervals, but it will be a pre-test. I may not run full speed but will give it a good hard effort. It has been almost 13 years since I ran my PR 4:18 1500m, and it will be interesting to see how much I've slid. I think I need to start making excuses now: I'll just have had two heavy weeks leading up to it, so my legs will be tired going in. ;-)
Feb 5, 2009 4:10 PM #
Wildsky:
my legs are tired just thinking about it. can we add in an 400m swim time trail and then a 800m paddle time trail
Feb 5, 2009 5:07 PM #
FrankTheTank:
I added the event to AP. So that should remind you if you sign up.

cool, great idea.. btw tuesday i ran hills with sergey as i always do and he told me when he was young he ran the mile in 4.05!!! crazy! he said at the time his claim of fame was that that would have been womens world record...
Feb 5, 2009 6:15 PM #
Flying Scotsman:
I feel sick at the thought of me puking at effort 5...

In if I can find a track I'm allowed on nearby.

Bambi on ice:
I'm out for this go round...haven't been running enough and it sounds like a great opportunity to pull something. Keep me informed on the March throw down.
Feb 5, 2009 8:48 PM #
Wildsky:
bambi it is not so much a through down as a benchmark tool. you should do it just to see how you improve over the year.

Dude my leg is all black and blue and full of blood clots. how fst do you think I can run??? maybe 7:00

Step up to the plate
Feb 5, 2009 9:52 PM #
roschi:
arent the blood clots dangerous?? why are you training right now, did the doctor really say it was ok?? dude you scare me sometimes, life is more than just AR training...
predictions: I am going to say i will be able to run 6.00, i know that sounds slow but given my previous runs I think i ve got nothing better than that, actually i think i may fail, but better to set the bar high.. and then see how i can improve over a 3 month period.. the thing that is strange is that i improved massively on the hill run (14m40 to 12m40) but cant seem to get much faster on the track, i wonder why?
Feb 5, 2009 10:59 PM #
Flying Scotsman:
I reckon 5:26 for me although I've never run 1600m timed before. See how close I am.
Feb 6, 2009 1:15 AM #
Wildsky:
not a chance scotsman and i've got a buck to back it up
Feb 6, 2009 5:01 AM #
roschi:
super, glen, totally disregarding my concerns for your health and trash talking and gambling on ruri's performance, classic! :) we ll see how it goes
Feb 6, 2009 2:47 PM #
Flying Scotsman:
We used to do a trail race over 10 miles and you would have to estimate your finish time. The end time was set so depending when you thought you would finish dictated how early or late you left the start.

All this without a watch of course. Easiest way to judge was at race pace and add a bit extra time. If all goes well there were a whole crowd of runners crossing the line at the same time. For another day!

5:26 - its possible and for every second I beat this Glen gives me a $1! For every second I am above this Glen can give me sh2t!

EDIT: seconds replaces minutes - DOH - not used to running for such a short time!
Feb 6, 2009 5:23 PM #
ebone:
Huh? For every minute? So you'd have to run 4:26 to earn $1, and you get 50 cents if you run 4:56?

I predict that I'll run slower than 4:26. :-)
Feb 6, 2009 7:17 PM #
Bambi on ice:
I say we also have a most improved division...this will allow me to sandbag the first one and improve 200% by the end of the year...taking home all the gold!
Feb 7, 2009 4:20 AM #
Wildsky:
No one sided bets there scotsman. its an over/under do you want it.
Feb 8, 2009 1:17 AM #
Wildsky:
just to clarify...all runs must be performed on a TRACK no treadmill BS
Feb 8, 2009 9:28 PM #
Flying Scotsman:
Issaquah HS track this morning.

5:11 so Glen owes me $14.

That was with a full breakfast so I nearly puked for the 5 mins afterwards so reckon theres a sub 5 in me if I do more than my current zero training.
Feb 8, 2009 10:37 PM #
Wildsky:
sorry the run and therefore bet, is on 2/24. although I will be happy to admit that you are damm fast and much faster than I would ever think of you.

Run again on 2/24 and we will see about paying the bet,

From above
'No one sided bets there scotsman. its an over/under do you want it"

you never did actually take the bet and now that you know you can do it you now want to bet on it? had you run over 5:26 I might think that you wouldn't mention it and then not taken the bet but now that you have done a pre run, you want the $$$?

I think that I am being worked over, I may need to call my friend vinny from LI and ask him to pay you a visit.
Feb 8, 2009 10:56 PM #
Flying Scotsman:
You see I could have not mentioned today as for some reason I thought it was this week so figured this was the only day for me.

Still I did you a favour and rounded to the nearest $ value thus saving you a buck! Aren't I good!

I'll put the other $14 on tab till I see you again Mr "Ye of little faith".

The time actually compares with my other distance PB's such as 10km and 1/2 marathon in the online run time converter so not a big suprise.
Feb 8, 2009 11:14 PM #
Wildsky:
once again read my above post

"No one sided bets there scotsman. its an over/under do you want it"

do you understand over/under?

Vinny is on his way

5.11 is sick for a guy who runs as sporadically as you, you dont deserve it, give it to me! :)
glen is right though.. 2/24, that ll give you enough time to go sub 5 right!
Feb 9, 2009 7:25 AM #
Nikolay:
Joining in. Nice trash talking.
I'll predict that my time for the mile will be around 5:00 +/- 1 min.
Feb 12, 2009 9:06 PM #
Sergey:
Oh, yes, those days of glory to run faster than any women in the world :) Nowdays if I brake 5:00 that would be super. I think I join the challenge :)
Feb 24, 2009 6:46 PM #
herbhead:
I'm in...i haven't run a 1600m for time since high school. I'll be happy if I break 6:00. I'm not sure what the world record is for 1600m. 1500m it is 3:26 and a mile is 3:43:13. I have not ran that fast in a long time...!
Feb 24, 2009 8:02 PM #
roschi:
its good for keeping score over a long period of time, and there are plenty of guys up in seattle to compare to as well...
Feb 24, 2009 8:47 PM #
Flying Scotsman:
Some guy did 4:40 in Oz.

I did mine today at lunch and while I'm still suffering leg wise from running Tiger at the w/e I did the same time as before - 5:11. Not sure now if I have a sub 5 even with some training.
Feb 24, 2009 11:58 PM #
roschi:
5.11 is impressive... its funny because i will be at the arse end of this group but then when comparing say a mt.si i would probably be close to the top end.. i just cant run fast on flats, or anywhere really.. that said i have yet to go do the run at 7pm..
ruri, add your split
