My computer just managed to finally upload the last of the ~250 photos we got from the sprint races on the weekend. Hopefully we got one of nearly everybody - though there were a LOT of people there.

Big congratulations to the GVOC gang for putting together yet another really nice set of sprint racing and training sessions. The weather cooperated, and a great time was had by all.

The terrain was quite variable and interesting. The Acadia Sprint was quite intricate and technical (and fortunately flat...), and the False Creek sprint made for some very fast running in a picturesque semi-urban setting by the waterfront. The setting for the Cleveland Dam sprint was nothing short of spectacular, and the (hilly) Princess Park map featured some beautiful stands of forests, the likes of which we just don't see in the east.

Although my muscles are still complaining from their first real bout of outdoor running, the trip was very much worthwhile.

I would highly recommend this training camp to anyone - too bad you have to wait another 12 months before the sprint training camp time rolls around again!

what camera/lens was used ? some of these pictures are very dynamic, i.e., the photographer is "embedded" with a nearby runner and using a wider lens and not telephoto (like the ones on the ocean beach next to clumps of seaweed). very nice...

Yeah, I don't know where Falcon found that gem of a headband - guess he's been an AC/DC fan since childhood....

In general, about 90% of the pictures on that website were taken using a Canon camera (mostly a 40D) and a 24-105mm f/4L lens. Total workhorse lens, about perfect for outdoor sports where you can get close to the athletes. That's what counts as "wide angle" for me.

Impressively, this weekend was only Jon's second outing with an SLR camera - he's figuring things out quite quickly, particularly given that he doesn't even own a camera. He was mainly using a Canon 50D with a 70-200mm f/2.8L lens, plus he also borrowed my other camera when I was running. I was trying out a Canon 5D mark II, with that same 24-105mm lens on it. Following this weekend, AZ is the new owner of that lens, so we can start to expect some awesome images from his corner quite soon....
