there are some very hardy varieties. I gave my mother a shoot 20 or more years ago for her birthday, and it is still a very nice little grove about 15' feet high and 15' x 15'. Very nice golden green in the winter, cheerful especially in the snow.

we'll see how this baby does, there's still one living thingy, and new ones COULD be getting ready to come up....

yeah, the underground part is probably still alive then, protected by the earth. But does it fit into your more formal Italian vision?
