Discussion: Sprint camp 2010

Next year the Olympics conflicts with when the camp is usually held. We're therefore thinking we should move it.
Olympics (Feb 12 - 28)
Paralympics (March 12 - 21)

Some options:
1) Between the olympics March 5-7
- traveling in/out of Vancouver might still be difficult
2) During the paralympics: either March 12-14 or March 19-21
- includes possibility of watching some paralympics events before/after the training camp.
- Could possibly have some training courses available in Whistler the week leading up to the camp.
3) April 3-6 (Easter Long weekend)
- Includes an extra middle distance race before or after.
- starts getting into the regular o-season, where there already are a few other events.

Any opinions?

Why can't the sprint camp be held a few weeks _before_ the Olympics? Will the city be too busy/expensive already? I know you can't go back too far, because daylight hours become an issue.

Mmm we had thought of that, but there is a lower chance of the weather being decent (and also less daylight as you point out). However, it would keep it more in the "off season", which has always been our point. The Easter weekend is getting rather close to other events and the real orienteering season.

Wouldn't summer be nice too? How about every quarter? April, July, September...

I'd prefer one of the weekends in March. Is the paralympics going to a big visitor draw?

I like having 10 sprints in 2.5 days. I think adding an extra day for a middle might lose some of the camp's focus (and add some extra exhaustion!).

Have you tried writing a letter to the Olympic committee to move their event?
If Jacques Rogge does not cooperate with our request, I would vote for some weekend in March.

I like keeping it in the off-season. Of course early April is still the off season for us:-) Seriously though, I like march some time.
