Hey everybody who did the challenge, why not post your results directly on the event detail page under the "comments" line on the "who's going" list? That way everyone can see who did it and all the times in one place instead of touring logs one at a time.

Wouldn't the event results page be easier?

Duh. Works for me. Didn't realize that existed.

Granted, this was hardly a double-blind trial, but I do find it interesting how few annomalies are in these results. Most people posted times consistent with their overall ratings; the outliers were less distinct than the typical A-meet postings. A 100-point effort (3:44) would have been within seconds of the current world record. Perhaps fitness counts more than we admit in this sport.

yay im winning, though someone should beat me, considering i did it 3days after tri champs and it was the 1st mile of my normal tuesday session

I'll change mine to 4:30 if it makes you feel better.

Everybody ran a 4:30 mile in High School

Makes one wish one was "everybody".

When are we doing this again? Monthly? Quarterly? It would be another good motivator to do this periodically...
Feb 27, 2009 3:32 PM #
ebuckley:
Monthly seems a bit much, but I'd be happy to participate quarterly, particularly if we allowed some flexibility on scheduling (e.g., run a mile some time during the first week of June).

It might be fun to try different distances as well. Maybe shorter in the summer when most people are working speed and longer in the winter to test VO2Max (3K is a pretty optimal distance for that, since it is run right at 100%VO2Max).

I thought we are running a mile, not 1600m. It's not a big difference but would be good to clarify. I did a mile.

SInce the name of the race was "The Attackpoint 1600m Time Trial Challenge", it seemed to me that 1600m was the distance to use.

How much longer is the window open to add a time since I have not run it yet?

I wish we would have 400m splits - it is too late now :)

From a user interface standpoint, you can always add your results to an existing split list. The event page indicated that you should actually perform the run on the 24th, but quite a few folks (myself included) ran it on a different day.

I like the idea of setting a specific target date, but allowing personal variance (to compensate for work schedule, weather, training plans, etc.)

I too ran a mile, on a wheel-measured asphalt bike path, because of difficulty finding a track I could get on. I assumed that I crossed the 1600 mark approx 2 seconds earlier and reported that as my 1600 time.

It would be nice to have the option of putting in 400 m splits, although I did not record them this time.

I like the one week window to run the TT. And the different distances idea too.
We can put in the description next time for people to take 400 m splits. As for me, I have not had a chance to run the mile yet.

We could start an interesting tradition here. ;-)

they do it with erg, on-line, live. I would vote for at least 5000 m track, though :)

Nikolay:
I would vote for 1600 and 5000 quarterly.
One month 1600, next one 5000, the third one beer with chips and fish. Repeat.
Greg, what is erg?

the month with beer and chips and fish, do I still get to run and puke after the beer and chips?

Yes!

Erg is rowing machine, see Hilary's training, she just placed 9-th at World indoor champs in open light category and 6-th in her heat:

The problem with going to 5K is that you are getting into the distances where you have to start building in recovery. Not a concern for you young studs who bounce back in a couple days, but the over 40 crowd would probably be more hesitant to blow a whole week's training on an online competition.

Nikolay:
He he, I think I am phasing out of the young studs category. I would welcome though another hard training session once a month at least during the racing season. More speed workouts are always a good thing, for me at least.

O-ing:
1600m is a very good distance for a time trial as Eric says - not a sprint, so people should be able to run it without getting too unstable on dodgy knees, while short enough to recover from quickly. The best way to run a 1600m is on a 400m track - the first lap should feel really easy, the second where you are starting to work, the third is where things are starting to go wrong and its flat out on the 4th (but you are not sprinting because you are too tired). That way all of the laps should take the same time - you need splits to get a feel for that.
