(I apologize in advance for those also on the USOFClubnet YahooGroup seeing this twice.)
Come to Thacher Park and Camp Pinnacle for "The Pinnacle of Orienteering"!
As the Northeast O season starts to pick up this weekend, we want to remind everyone that the early registration postmark deadline for the US Short & Long O Championships hosted by EMPO, near Albany NY, is Sat., April 8th. Whether you register online (thanks again to DVOA's Kent Shaw!) or use the
standard USOF entry form, please postmark your entry/check by the 8th to avoid the late fee. All the details are
here.
If you are planning to attend the Intercollegiate Champs/NEOC Spring Rock Festival Apr. 8-9, I will be there to accept hand-delivered entries/checks all weekend and someone should be able to point me out if you don't know me personally; I'll also be at the dinner Saturday night. If you are a club officer, please pass this reminder on to your club members.
Dorm/meal combos and camping opportunities are available on-site at Camp Pinnacle, a church camp adjacent to and within a short drive of Day 1 site Thacher Park, and the location of the Day 2 (Long-O) start and finish. The dorms are arranged with bunk beds for up to 8 people and you may request to be housed with others from your club or group, or be assigned to a "male" or "female" dorm room--note your choice on your accommodations form; indicate names of other group members with whom you wish to share a room. Camp Pinnacle was a popular place for lodging at our last A-meet in 2004, so be sure to register early. The Saturday dinner will also be held at Camp Pinnacle and can be purchased separately if you don't plan to stay overnight there; it received rave reviews in 2004!
Don't forget to order your event T-shirt, a long-sleeve navy Beefy-T with four-color design by EMPO's Robert Lange, available in adult sizes S-XXL for $16 each.
Thacher Park overlooks Albany and the mountains to the east from a cliff that reaches up to 100' in places. After orienteering on Saturday you can take pictures from the cliff near parking or hike to the overlook and on the Indian Ladder Trail. We hope you can come!
