I just called to make a camping reservation at Sprague Brook Park for Friday/Saturday nights. We're on site 20.

Of note for those thinking about camping: Despite this park having 122 campsites, I was told that only the 30 sites in the southern-most loop will be open.

I didn't think to ask while I was still on the phone if they would open more sites if this loop fills up. But I have no doubt it will fill so you probably want to get your reservations in soon, or take your chances.

I vetted the park earlier today and I can confirm that that the northern camping loop is currently closed. Picnic tables are still on their sides and the water is not turned on. There were plenty of campers on the southern loop and even in the field near the tennis court (about a dozen tents!). I have not spoken to any park official so I can't comment about availability in May, but what I saw was at least consistent with what fossil was told.

P.S. The times here will be fast!

I'll check with the park tomorrow, Monday, to see what they think the chances are of opening the northern loop. They usually don't open that loop until Memorial Day but I seem to recall that the Commissioner had promised to have it open. The field near the tennis courts would be an interesting option for reasons which are currently embargoed. But I think that is usually reserved for organized scout groups.

I met with the park supervisor yesterday and he expressed doubt that they would open the upper loop before Memorial Day. Something about bathrooms not working properly. That's good in a way because it opens up more route choice opportunities.

As of yesterday, the lower loop still had 12 sites available.
