Because it looks to me like these results are controversial at best. I'd be looking over your shoulder if I were you.

Jerritt, I see you caught me by control 6 ! Yikes .. If you hadn't made that little ~3 min error on # 8 you would have taken home the prize ! The case of beer is still waiting for you to beat me.

Jerritt, i took a look at the courses map. The 2 controls in question around Blue #8 (=210) and red course 211 were 148 meters apart .
The second pile of rocks (#211) was not in the reentrant but rather up on the hillside. That was the key difference . I agree that many of the scattered trees seemed to be missing in the area.

Looks like navigating is still the key....I assume Jerritt could out run Ian in a pure running race by a significant margin...I assume Jerritt has a bigger aerobic engine but that does not get you the win...age and navigation experience triumph...besides I would not smack talk the guy who gave you a 20 minute adjustment...biting the hand that feeds....

O Steve!:
...and it was one of the easiest on the course....I took a quick running bearing from trail 4 way and still drifted to the north...not sure why, I usually do pretty good on these type of controls...the scattered trees did not seem to be there but the contours were....it should have been a gimme instead of a 3 minute mistake....

Jerritt:
That makes sense Ian. I did not even look at the contours on that leg. I was only looking at the vegetation and bearing. Checking the contours would have eliminated the mistake. It also makes sense that they were farther apart than I thought. I did not have the map in front of me when I entered the comment. I plan to add a few more leg comments tonight with the map.

Its what I do best. Working with high school students I have learned to act impulsively and think about the consequences never. Ian knows the time is near. That's all that matters.

O Steve!:
Ian and others?.....what would the USOF do with the results if a control had an incorrect description like we had on #10.....would they re run the race?, make time adjustments?, or let the results stand since many had to deal with the incorrect control discription?......Im thinking the results for Afton should not be included in our local rankings due to the discrepencies.....

My suggestion is that since we have e-punch splits for 11 legs that are clean we can let the weight of these splits carry the day. The splits for the control 10 problem were adjusted and the splits ranking for leg 10 is pretty much the same as the final ranking. There was some excellent running and orienteering done on legs 1-9 and 11 and 12 .

O Steve!:
since we have everyones time split to #10, why not subtract the #10 split from everyones final time and use that as the final time on blue to calculate rankings....that in effect would not count #10 and you would not have to estimate the effect it had on time....that seems to be the fairest solution...and the fairest result...my two cents.....unsolicited : )
