It's well past the usual time of the year to start the Jukola discussion, and the esteemed CSU team has long been entered and ready to roll. The question is, will there be Team AP-Rasti this year? Tom and Eric are definite no's at this point, so this leaves Andy and Blegg. Anyone else?
At this point, I will probably not go, aiming for the WOC spectator races instead. But, if the upcoming rogaine shows that there's nothing worthy for me to pursue in Australia at the WRC, I can reconsider.
Since I am going to be in Europe for the summer anyway, I would be willing to go.
Well, I've always wanted to run Jukola, and am still 100% in for this year. Ben has his tickets already. Let's get a team together! Attackpoint has more Euro-based members these days. Anyone interested?
For those who don't know, Jukola is in Salo this year on the south coast of Finland, date 17-18th June. Ryanair has cheap flights to Tampere from London and Frankfurt, and I'm sure there are other good ways of getting there. There's also the Forssa Games, a high-quality evening short race on the Thursday preceding, and quite close by. Jukola entries are due by May 15th.
I'm waiting to see what my Swedish club decides to do. So I might be looking for a team (But I won't run at night). CSU's team looked too scary for GHO to enter a team against them..... Go GVOC - Make CSU a CSI.
Yep, I'll be there! And it would sure be more fun to compete than to spectate ;-)
Looks like there's still lots of space on the team, so if you've been wanting to do this, let us know soon and join the fun!
There was some interest among at least one or two Australians for a Jukola team (Blair Trewin sent an email to his Australian mailing list). I don't know if anything came of that, but if there were only two or three interested and not enough for a team, then one could imagine an Australian - Attackpoint team. Blair, if you're reading this, maybe you can finally sign up to Attackpoint and say what's going on, if anything.
It looks like we'll have a full Australian team - there might at most be one vacancy but I suspect we'll find someone for it (have a few 'possibles'). Should be quite a decent team with nearly everyone ranked in the Australian top 20, but lack of night experience might be a bit of a stumbling block. I've never run Jukola before and am definitely looking forward to it.
I may be going to Jukola too.
If I decide to go and anyone needs a coach I´m open for 'bids'. I do have 'some' experience from earlier Jukola relays - maybe 15 of them both running and as a coach - but haven´t been there the last couple of years though...
I don´t plan to run and I wouldn´t contribute much anyway - (but if there´s an absolute crisis situation with a missing runner I guess I can always reconsider...)
GVOC is completely organized and ready! Everyone on the team has their travel plans figured out. We will meet up at my mother's in Nyköping and have two days of training there and then we'll hook up with my Swedish team, Linköpings OK, for the trip and the event.
Our goal is to maximize the fun and to finish the race with all the controls properly punched. Placing is not as important this time, but we plan on Robin tripping up Boris on the first leg :)
Leif, team CSU is definitely in the market for a team leader. If you are interested, I think we'd be happy (and lucky!) to have you.
OK, Boris - interesting to hear that. I´ll have to settle some business at home and the travel arrangements (with my club?) before I can promise that I can actually make it. It would certainly be fun to be able to help - I´ll let you know more later.
Finally, we were nowhere near making up an Attackpoint team, so Attackpoint Rasti is not entered this year. I will be there, though - blegg will too - and we'll both be looking for a run. Does anyone know of a team looking for a runner? Does anyone who's been to Jukola know what our chances might be of finding a team at the race site that weekend? Thanks for any tips.
