This is something I've always wanted to do. I'll have to join you next time. |

| Bash: | It would be a great family trip with AdventureGirl! in the front of a double kayak. We'll let you know when we're going next. |

| urthbuoy: | I won't give up my mountains and I won't give up my rivers, but that is definitely one thing you guys have over us. Still have very fond memories of the paddling sections in Ontario. |

| 'Bent: | Hammer, you and the gang would absolutely love it. A gazillion islands to explore, a thousand perfect campsites, sheltered paddling possible, a half dozen other kayaks seen on a busy day. |

| hammer: | I've often thought that it would be really cool to have an adventure race that is mostly paddling in GBay and to have some real paddling nav in some of those 30,000 islands. The problem would to find an area that is safe enough for the average paddler.
urthbuoy: A few years ago a letter to the editor in the Hamilton Spectator went something like this: "Dear Hamiltonians, You call that a Mountain? you have delusions of grandeur. Come to Alberta and we'll show you mountains" A few days later another letter appeared "Dear friend from Alberta, You call those lakes?" Canada is awesome. Just too big. |

It's very, very weather dependent (as was learned in Raid The North Parry Sound), so the trick would be to design a race that had an alternate route for bad weather. That would be a challenge, since there aren't many road accesses. On a relatively calm day, almost anyone can paddle anywhere on the Bay. When the wind gets up above 15 knots, it's not much fun to paddle in exposed areas. It's hard to travel any significant distance without passing a point where you are exposed to the open bay, which can feel like the ocean - except rockier. Safety boats would be of little use in an area with that many rocks and islands. But I love the concept of having a race there. The navigation is a good challenge. |
